Objectives

The overall aim of CITAD is to provide guidelines informed by both research and practice on how ICTs could be properly deployed for development purposes. Consequently, its specific objectives are:

  • Raise awareness about the use of ICTs in development
  • Campaign for an appropriate national policy on ICTs
  • Conduct research on ICTs in development
  • Propagate best practices in ICT applications in development
  • Use ICTs as tools for the promotion of democracy and good governance
  • Run community computer resource centres for people to have access to computing facilities
  • Conduct advocacy on the need to integrate ICT skills in the country’s education system
  • Monitor the application of ICTs in the society
  • Provide training to disadvantaged groups such as women, children and other marginal groups on ICTs.

Method of Work

In pursuing its aim and objectives, the organization conducts its activities through:

  • Education: carry out educational programmes such as computer training for various groups such as children, youth, workers, workers, leaders of community based organization and professional groups
  • Campaign and publicity: this is a systematic and sustained effort aimed at educating and enlightening the public on the importance of computer education, the internet and other associated issues. It involves the use of existing mass media libraries and the publication of CITAD’s own publicity materials such as newsletters, magazines, etc.
  • Advocacy: this is aimed at achieving four objectives namely, getting policy planners and makers to integrate computer training in our education system at all levels, the use of ICTs to promote democracy and good governance, the creation of enabling environment and appropriate policy framework for the development of ICTs sector in the country and the campaign to achieve universal access to ICTs by bridging all the dimensions of the digital divide in the country.
  • Research: the organization conducts research and surveys on the use, level, pattern, scope and impact of computerization in the use. The objective is to seek to document best practices while voiding negative ones.
  • ICT Consultancy Services: The organisation provides consultancy services in all areas of ICT applications
  • ICT Business Promotions: The organisation promotes ICT business through ICT fairs and exhibition, ICT business dialogue and the production of an annual ICT year book dealing with ICT business development and market outlook in Northern Nigeria.
