The sensitization targeted people in the community, teachers and the pupils of the primary school. Protocols of preventing the spread of COVID-19 were demonstrated by CITAD team
The sensitization is part of the CITAD’s effort at creating awareness around COVID19 with a view to preventing further spread of the virus particularly in rural areas where enlightenment is low.
Leader of CITAD delegation during the sensitization, Sagiru Ado Abubakar explained that CITAD has supported other young people across Kano state to enlighten the wider community on the pandemic so as people practice the necessary protocols aimed to preventing the spread of the virus. He added that as a community-oriented organization, CITAD believed by empowering and supporting rural communities societal problems and challenges will be gradually eliminated.
Sagiru maintained that to CITAD, Shara community is a unique community, despite it’s challenges of having no educational structure, people in the area send their pupils to take lessons under tree, that is the reason we have been paying attention in the last four years. We were here last year where we brought donation of board, male and female uniforms, pens, mats, chalks and other educational materials to support the pupils’ education. We noticed Shara four years ago when were implementing an M4D supported project and it was quite alarming that despite having representatives, the community lacks even a classroom for the pupils even though the pupils are passionate about acquiring education. He then sensitized them that the best way for schools to avoid COVID-19 infection is to ensure students and teachers wash their hands frequently and clean and disinfect their premises often. He lastly encouraged sick students and teachers to stay home and show students how to cough or sneeze into a tissue, or to cough into their elbow if they cannot get tissue.
In his message, the Education Secretary, Sumaila Local Education Authority, Malam Sabo Aliyu who was represented by Malam Jawwad Adamu Sitti said that Shara Community School was already registered with School Based Management Committee at the secretariat and the school is due to all privileges enjoy by all primary schools in the local government. He added that the Local Education Authority set to distribute some items to all primary schools in the local government for Covid 19 prevention and control, and Shara Community School will be included. Alhaji Ado Jibrin Shara expressed his gratitude to CITAD for bearing with them always in mind. He said that he has short of word to express his happiness to the organization that helps them to establish the school.
