TRAINING OF THE FEMALE SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS OF BAUCHI SATE

THE  TRAINING OF THE FEMALE SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS OF BAUCHI SATE CONDUCTED BY THE CENTRE FOR INFORMATION TECHONOLOGY AND DEVELOPMENT (CITAD) WITH SUPPORT FROM WeTech

Bauchi_3 Bauchi_2 Bauchi_1The programme was officially declared open by the representative of the honourable commissioner ministry of education Bauchi and also the Director ICTs of the Ministry Alh. Salisu Zwall.

During the opening Ceremony the Guest Speaker at the occasion Waziri Gumau the deputy Rector, Federal Polytechnics Bauchi who represented the Rector of the Polytechnic  delivered a speech on the indispensability of ICTs to Teaching Profession and the role of ICTs in providing means of livelihood. He also extensively discussed on the need for the teachers to commit themselves to seeking of IT knowledge either supported to do that or not, the challenged the teachers present to starting think or the way they will face the challenge of the AJMB policy to 100% online Examination from this year, because according to him high number of the students in the northern part of the country especially the public schools lack ITC knowledge therefore, they are likely not get admission in to tertiary institution which will bring a major set back to the region.

Earlier on, Alh. Ibrahim Sani CITAD’s Advisor that gave the welcome address stated that; “The focus of the project is to support programmes that would involve more women and girls in computer science-related opportunities. The training will equip the participants with knowledge on Basic ICTs, and entrepreneurial skills (Trade Skills that include Video coverage, Film editing, Graphics, Photocopy and Desktop publishing) to enable the participants to have relevant information and skills that would assist them in establishing their businesses in their communities”. He also advised the trainees to advice the trainees to demonstrate their pedagogical attitude to learn what is expected of them so as to effectively step down the training as expected of them. Alh. Sani further expressed CITADs’ readiness to partner with any individual or group that has the intention of promoting education especially using ITCs as a tool. I thank you very much for given you time to be here with us and wish the trainees a fruitful and effective training sessions.

After the opening Ceremony on the 15th September, 2014 the training sessions continued at the Government Girls College, Bauchi on that first day of the training which was led by Halima Umar Fundamentals of Computer was taught to the trainings this gave them the basics knowledge of computer and its application, the session took about six hours due to number of questions and curiosity of the participants to know more.

On the second day of the training MicroSoft Word session was facilitated by Abdurrashis Ibrahima Sadiq and Ibrahim Nuhu the participants were led to understand word processing and almost everything related to it. Excell was the package taken on the third day of the training and it was also taken care of by Abdurrashis Ibrahima Sadiq and Ibrahim Nuhu while Halima Umar as a female was going round to assist the trainees in areas that needed practical on one on guidance. In this area special attention was given on the application of the package in the areas of school activities.

The forth day was the session for that of PowerPoint which the trainees were led to create and manage presentations. Which on that last day internet package was taught and the use of the Social Media for promotion of Peace and curbing of insecurity, this area is specifically targeted at the peace club advisors among the trainees.

Also on the last day that was 20th September, 2014 closing speech was delivered by Isah Garba the coordinator of the training in Bauchi who during his speech appealed to the trainees to step down the training to not only their students but also to their colleagues so as to maximized the benefit of the training. He also drew the attention of the participants to continue with   practicing what they learnt at the training to avoid rapid disappearance of the skill acquired as according to him ‘computer skills are like language, your level of proficiency in it depends on the your frequent practice otherwise the skill would become a history they without practice be only left with the certificate but the skill may likely disappear.

Total number of the female teachers trained were and 10 male teachers that will serve as peace club advisers.

The participants interviewed by the journalist after the closing and issuance of certificate of attendance expressed their gratitude to CITAD for the training and the Ministry of Education for selecting them to participate in the training.
