GENERAL INTRODUTION

The 2 day workshop for BECIPEM members has been organized by the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) with support from USAID through Pact Nigeria. It took place at Prof. Iya Resource Centre, Bauchi State Library, Bauchi State. It is aimed at among other things building d capacity of the individual organizations for strategic planning which by extension will help in making proper planning at BECIPEM level. All expected participants were in attendance with representation from Pact Nigeria by Mr Ibraahim Sunusi, while Y. Z. Ya`u led the CITAD delegations.

REPORT OF THE YOUWIN SENSITIZATION LECTURE ORGANIZED BY CENTRE FOR INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND DEVELOPMENT (CITAD) IN COLLABORATION WITH FEDERATION OF MUSLIM WOMEN OF NIGERIA (FOMWAN) ON 30^TH SEPTEMBER, 2012 AT SCHOOL OF ARABIC STUDIES (SAS)

A day after youwin sensitization lecture organized by CITAD, Hajiya Salamatu the Amira of FOMWAN Kano chapter requested CITAD to organize the same lecture to the members of her organization. Saying that most of them did not attend the sensitization lecture organized by CITAD as they were attending another occasion on that day. Agreement was reached between CITAD and FOMWAN that CITAD will bring the resource persons and FOMWAN will make all the necessary arrangement for the lecture including venue.

SENSITIZING WOMEN TO SEIZE THE YOUWIN OPPORTUNITY

The centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) as part of its promotion of entrepreneurship on Saturday 22^nd September organized the first of series of sensitization lectures on Youth Enterprise with Innovation program (You Win). The YouWin Program is an innovative business plan competition aimed at job creation by encouraging and supporting aspiring entrepreneurial youth in Nigeria to develop and execute business ideas. The lecture held at CITAD with participants numbering over 200 from 40 different women groups in the State.

In continuation of its effort to provide, ICT awareness in Nigeria, the Centre for Information Technology and Development, (CITAD) Kanohas conducted an ICT Career lecture at GovernmentSeniorSecondary School, Utai Wudil Local Government Area of Kano State on Wednesday, 30^th June 2012 at the school premises. The Principal of the School Mallam Muhammad Musa Wudil and eight other teaching staff of the school attended the lecture.

Malam Mukhtar Suleiman and Shehu Usman Salihu delivered the ICT career lecture respectively. Issues concerning the significance of computer, the uses of the internet were extensively discussed. In his lecture, Malam Mukhtar Suleiman explained the historical origin of computer, its component parts and how it can be used to enhance human activities.

The Career Talk was declared open by Vice Principal Hassan A. Ibrahim with an opening prayer. He then introduced the representative of Jigawa State Zonal Education Office and the CITAD team to students.

Sagir Ado who led the career talk introduced the members of the career talk team and mentioned their responsibilities in the organization. He also mentioned some of the activities of CITAD such as the career talk, ICT Quiz, Voter Education, e-Governance Soft option Scheme etc. He stated that the purpose of the talk is to sensitize students on the importance of the computer education in the society. He then handed over the talk to Malam Mukhtar Umar.

Malam Mukhtar Umar started his presentation with asking students questions on the computer and its parts. He was happy with the ways that the students responded to his questions. It appeared that they know something about computer.

On 24^th may, 2012 Center for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) conducted Its Second Term Career Talk inKanoat Govt. Senior Secondary School Hassana Sufi.

The Talk Conducted by team members namely: Mal Ado Shehu Yakasai, Abdullahi Abdu Jido & Khadeeja Ismail.

The session was opened by Mal Ado after introducing the team, Mal Ado express his gratitude as the school gave us a time and opportunity to conduct this career talk. He then stress the important of computer in education especially for ladies, where he said a lady can start her at home, if you are not allowed to work under government.Adoalso explains the component of computer and its function.

Khadeeja Ismail is the second presenter where addressed the student that they should try and read more hard to see that they have achieve to become computer literate, according to her she said computer is found in every angle of life, so it has so much impact on our life.

Then third presenter Abdullahi Jido talks on Internet and its uses.

At end series question and answers were made at event. Over 250 students attended which compared JSS 3, SS 1 and SS The session closed by 12:50pm.

In contiuation of its effort to provide ICT awareness in secondry schools, CITAD has conducted an ICT carrier talk at GSS Gaya on tuesday 7,2012. After welcome address by the principal Mal. Adamu Inuwa, two presentations were made at the talks.

The first presentation was made by Mukhtar suleiman on computer and its parts. The second presentation was made on the functions/uses of the computer by shehu usman Halipha. The Talk had the attendance of about 200 students from SS 1,2 and JSS 3.

In his remark Mal Sagiru Ado urged the students to take the Computer Education as their carrier oppurtunity in the future as the importance of the ICT is never emphasise.

In his closing remark vice principal Mal. Bashir and mal. Adamu A. Gwadabe HOD computer thanked CITAD on this effort and requested CITAD to invite the school to its annual ICT quiz, as they have computer dept in the school.

Report of Sensitization Workshop for Media Workers in Kano

To drive its advocacy efforts, CITAD on Thursday 22nd, March, 2012 held a one-day sensitization workshop for media professionals. The workshop, conducted in partnership with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kano State Council at the NUJ Press Centre Kano was attended by 20 journalists from various media organizations in the state. Welcoming participants to the workshop the NUJ Chairman, Comrade Abduljalil Haruna said the workshop was in line with The human development agenda of the council which aimed at uplifting the professional standards of members in the state. He disclosed that already the council was establishing a Computer Centre at the press which when commissioned would serve as a training point for journalists in the state.

The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) in conjunction with the management of the Bauchi Television Authority (BaTV) organized a four-day training workshop on ICT for Media Professionals. The workshop which held from 25^th to 28^th October at the Iya Abubakar Community Resource Centre, State Library, Bauchi, was aimed at enhancing the capacity of media professionals to utilise ICTs for their professional work. The specific objectives of the programme are:

1. 1.      Expose the participants to various new ICT tools for media work that would enhance their professional competence
2. 2.      Enhance the skills of the participants in the use of ICTs
3. 3.      Introduce the participants to new media businesses using ICTs

As part of its develop to develop the capacity of CSOs in Bauchi State to monitor the implementation of the State Public Procurement Law, CITAD with support from Pact Nigeria held a one-day training workshop on ICTs and Social Media For Information Sharing. The workshop which held on Monday 24^th October, 2011 at Iya Abubakar Community Resource Centre, State Library, Bauchi was attended by representatives of 20 CBOs from across the State.

The Bauchi 2^nd Annual ICT Quiz was successfully conducted on Wednesday 28^th, September 2011 at Government Girls Secondary School Azare, Bauchi. The Centre for Information Technology and Development, CITAD conducted its Fouth Jigawa State ICT Quiz for Secondary Schools on Thursday, 16th June 2011 at State Library in Dutse. The event witnessed the attendance of high ranking officers of the state civil service and prominent individuals. In attendance were Malam Hussaini Ayuba, Deputy Director, Ministry of Education, Alh. Idris Isah, a representative of the General Manager, Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, Dutse, Ibrahim Dabo, Ministry of Information, and Alh. Ismatu Babangida, of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology among other distinguished personalities.

The ICT competition hosted nine Senior Secondary Schools and Eighteen contestants struggle to emerge winners of the fourth ICT quiz.

The career lecture was the first to take place in Jigawa State this year and the first of its kind in (Special) Secondary Schools. The Principal of the Mallam Ibrahim Muhammad (Deaf Adviser to the Jigawa Governor) and eleven other teaching staff of the school attended the lecture.
